Could Meghan Markle Be Joining The Gentlemen?

The Gentlemen is back, Season 2 is already a hit, and somehow the biggest question now is not what Eddie Horniman does next.

It's whether Meghan Markle is about to join him.

Season 2 launched on Netflix on 3rd September and immediately returned the show to the global conversation. It debuted at No.3 on Netflix’s global English-language TV chart with 6.7 million views, then climbed to No.1 the following week with 9.9 million. In the UK, it went straight to No.1. Season 1 also bounced back into the global Top 10, which is usually a pretty good sign that audiences are not only watching the new episodes but going back for another look at how all this criminal chaos began.

And Netflix clearly likes what it sees because Season 3 has already been officially confirmed. That's where things get interesting.

Before Season 2 had even arrived, reports emerged that the Duchess of Sussex was in talks to join Season 3, potentially marking a major return to acting after leaving Suits in 2018. Variety reported that discussions were at a very early stage, with no contract signed and no character yet identified. Reuters subsequently reported that the idea may have been dropped, meaning this remains firmly in the rumour category rather than confirmed casting. But what a piece of casting it would be.

The Gentlemen already lives in a world of enormous country houses, inherited privilege, old money, new money, aristocrats and people who look perfectly comfortable discussing murder over a very expensive lunch. Adding a Duchess hardly feels disruptive. In fact, it almost feels suspiciously obvious.

Meghan was a successful working actor long before royal life took over. She appeared in more than 100 episodes of Suits as Rachel Zane, and whatever anyone thinks about everything that followed, returning in a glossy Netflix drama would instantly become one of the most talked-about television appearances of the year. The question is whether that attention would help the show or completely swallow it.

The cast themselves already seem fascinated by the possibility. At the Season 2 premiere, Theo James described the idea as intriguing, while Hugh Bonneville and Giancarlo Esposito were among those asked about what such a high-profile addition might mean. That tells you everything about the scale of the story: Meghan hasn’t appeared in a single frame and she is already dominating questions about Season 3.

Season 2 pushes Theo James’ Eddie much further into the criminal world, with his ambitions expanding into Italy and even politics. Kaya Scodelario is back as Susie Glass, Ray Winstone returns as Bobby, and new faces include Hugh Bonneville, Maya Jama, Michele Morrone and Benedetta Porcaroli. The show has become bigger, glossier and considerably more international.

Which makes Season 3 feel like the obvious moment to add another headline-making name. Whether Meghan actually appears remains very uncertain. But the fact it even feels plausible says something about how far The Gentlemen has travelled in two seasons.
